In our Story of the World studies, we're reading about King Tut and the discovery of his mummy and treasures. I found this chapter book about the life of Howard Carter and the team that discovered King Tut's tomb. It's an easy read and presents our topic in story form instead of fact laden pages in picture books. Don't get me wrong, it's essential that we use the non-fiction picture books, but this is a nice change of pace. And it works as our Read-Aloud this week!

We went to the Memorial Art Gallery and the boys had a great time - they have an exhibit on Ancient Egypt with a mummy and two mummy cases! I bet your guys would love it.
Kiley,
I've been thinking about where to tell you to visit in DC. Some thoughts...
It's easy to fill two days around the National Mall. The Museum of Natural History is a fun one for kids. And they have just opened a new under water exhibit. There are 2 Air and Space museums, and my kids like the one out by Dulles Airport better, but the one on the Mall is great too. The American Histroy Museum just re-opened and there is a fun train/transportation exhibit. There is a new Capitol Building Visitor's Center, which I haven't gotten to yet - so I cannot speak to it's kid friendliness, but it's supposed to be great. Walking to the top of the Washington Monument is a treat. As well as playing around the other memorials... Lincoln, Jefferson, FDR. Just bringing a frisbee or ball and playing on the Mall surrounded by the White House, Capitol, Memorials is fun. I hope to take my kids to The Bureau of Printing and Engraving - we haven't done that yet. Skip the American Indian Muesuem... not fun, but they have a great cafeteria.
How's that for a brain dump. : ) Hope it helps.
Jennifer
